About Sandra Lee
Sandra Lee is an Australian professional oil artist and the founder of Sandy Lee Artistry, specialising in bespoke equestrian, pet and portrait commissions. Her work is recognised for capturing not only an accurate likeness, but also the personality, emotion and presence of every subject, creating timeless artworks that celebrate life’s most treasured memories.
Sandra’s love of art began in childhood, where drawing quickly became her favourite subject at school. With a natural eye for detail, light and tone, she developed a passion for realism that would later become the foundation of her artistic style.
After a successful corporate career spanning almost 30 years, a Paint & Sip class unexpectedly reignited her passion for painting. Inspired to develop her skills professionally, Sandra studied at Art School Co for three years while dedicating countless hours to painting outside the classroom. Through continual practice and a willingness to embrace challenging subjects, she refined the distinctive style that defines her work today.
Today, Sandra is a full-time professional artist whose work is becoming increasingly recognised throughout Australia’s racing and equestrian communities.
She has been commissioned to create multiple official inductee portraits for the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, including Black Caviar & Peter Moody, Winx & Hugh Bowman, Zac Purton & Sacred Elixir, Mahogany & Greg Hall, Hydrogen, John Tapp OAM, and Keith Ballard (Spirit of Racing Inductee).
Beyond the Hall of Fame, Sandra has created original commissions featuring respected jockeys, trainers, owners and champion thoroughbreds, including Subzero & Greg Hall, Mr Brightside & Craig Williams, Cool Archie & Martin Harley, Robert Heathcote & Rothfire, Abounding & Ben Thompson, and La Zebra & Damian Lane. She has also completed commissions for owners associated with First Light Racing, including City Bound and Don’t Doubt Missy, and is currently creating a portrait for apprentice jockey Jace McMurray.
Her equestrian portfolio extends beyond thoroughbred racing to include dressage, campdraft, miniature horses and performance horses. Sandra has completed commissions for accomplished dressage rider Jana Stadelmann, campdraft competitor Blake Nicol, and Crystal Creek Miniature Horse Stud, celebrating the unique partnership between horse and rider across a wide range of disciplines.
While equestrian art has become her signature, Sandra also creates bespoke oil paintings of beloved pets, family portraits, weddings, memorials, wildlife, landscapes and florals. She particularly enjoys commissions that combine multiple reference photographs or preserve memories that would otherwise be impossible to recreate.
Sandra’s paintings are known for balancing realism with expressive brushwork. From a distance, her work often appears photographic, while closer inspection reveals rich textures, confident brushstrokes and the unmistakable character of an original oil painting. Every commission is individually handcrafted using professional-quality materials, ensuring each artwork is as unique as the story it tells.
One of the most rewarding parts of Sandra’s process is sharing the journey with her clients. Throughout each commission, she documents the painting’s progress on social media, allowing collectors to follow its development from the first brushstrokes through to the finished artwork. This collaborative approach gives clients the opportunity to experience the creation of their painting and become part of its story.
Every painting created by Sandy Lee Artistry is guided by a simple belief:
Every story deserves to be remembered.
Sandra’s goal is to create original oil paintings that preserve the people, animals and moments that matter most—artworks that will be treasured by families for generations to come.
